Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the investor and dependents?

The investor is the person who is applying for the Portugal Golden Visa. This person will open his/her Portuguese bank account and make the investment into a qualified Golden Visa fund.

A dependent is a family member (e.g. spouse, child, parent of investor or spouse) of the investor who is permitted to apply for a visa called "Family Reunification."

The dependent's visa status is contingent on the investor's visa and benefits from the same minimum stay requirements and timeline to citizenship as the investor.

Can dependents apply for family reunification at a later date?

Yes, dependents can be added at any time as long as the investor has a valid residence card. Each dependent's timeline for citizenship/permanent residency starts upon the receipt of his or her residence card.

What is the renewal schedule for the residence cards?

For the investor, the initial residence card is valid for 2 years and each renewal lasts 2 years. This means that you will need 2 renewals before you can apply for Portuguese citizenship or permanent residency at the end of year 5. (2 + 2 + 2)

For dependents, the initial residence card is valid for 2 years and the renewal lasts 3 years. This means that you only need 1 renewal before you can apply for Portuguese citizenship or permanent residency. (2 + 3)

Which nationalities does Bordr support for the Golden Visa service?

We support all nationalities for our Golden Visa service.

Do you support Golden Visa for other investment types (e.g. real estate)?

We only support qualified Golden Visa investment funds at this time.
